access log を調べるために、各国のドメインを調べることがあります。これはその調査記録です。
どっちかって言うと、自分のためのメモなんですけどね。

fqdn2domain.pl - FQDNなホスト名からサブドメインを含まないドメイン名を抜き出すperl library
iso2country.pl - ISO 3166 2文字国別コードから国名を返すperl library(というほどのものでもないが…)

ドメインの基礎知識

文献についてはあまり詳しくないので、より最適な文献があるかもしれません。

RFC 1035(DOMAIN NAMES - IMPLEMENTATION AND SPECIFICATION)によると、
＃当然DNSの定義にも関係あるけど…

2.3.1. Preferred name syntax: ピリオドとピリオドの間(Label)はalphabetで始まり、alphabetまたは数字またはハイフンが複数回続き、alphabetまたは数字で終わる。
注:「問題の起こりにくい」ドメインとして定義。RFC 1123(Requirements for Internet Hosts -- Application and Support)からは数字で始まるのを認めている。; labelは、63文字以下。こちらは絶対のよう。must を使ってあるので。
2.3.4. Size limits: names (ドメイン付きのホスト名)は255バイト以下。; RFC 1123には、ソフトは635文字までのホスト名を扱えなければならない、と書いてあるけど…

[汎用ドメイン] 数字とアルファベットを組み合わせれば2文字の第2ドメインも可能っていうのは、アルファベット2文字のCountry Codeと重なるのを避けるためらしい。特に根拠があるわけではないが…
3文字目と4文字目に同時に"-"を置けないというのは、国際化ドメイン(日本語.jpみたいなやつ)の定義と関係あるようだ。

これからの改正予定

現時点で把握しているドメイン名構造の変更を伴う規則改正。

[TO - Kingdom of Tonga]: Registry:TONIC Corporation; whoisは事実上なし。whois.tonic.toでは契約期間とDNSサーバの情報のみ出てくる。; 規格文書なし。Domain Search に間違ったのを入力すると出てきたのでそれを参考に。; 汎用型のみ。最短は1文字、最長は63文字。数字のみのドメインも認められる。; 余談ではあるが、アダルト関係のページは本国の意向でドメイン利用が認められないとのこと。めずらしい。; さらにSPAMに関して結構強く(TONICはドメインを取り消す権利を持つ、と敢えてSPAMの項に書いている)規制をかける姿勢が見える。実際どうか知らんけど。
